To Idroscalo for some Canoe Polo
This week, ICF Secretary General, Simon Toulson, Canoe Polo Technical Chair Greg Smale and the ICF Event Operations Manager, Sylvie Michaud visited the Idroscalo Club in Milan. They met with Italian Canoe Federation President (and ICF Treasurer) Luciano Buonfiglio, the President of the Idroscalo Club and members of the 2010 ICF Canoe Polo World Championship Host Organizing Committee (HOC).
The ninth edition of the Canoe Polo World Championship will be held for the first time in Italy during the first week of September. The purpose of this recent visit was to discuss logistics and define the procedures for the entry of the teams.
ICF Secretary General Simon Toulson commented “The fact that we have guaranteed domestic live television and a highlights show for the Canoe Polo World Championships to be shown around the world again shows the popularity of the different canoeing disciplines for mass audiences.”
Already, great progress has been made and all were united in expressing their appreciation of the club’s facilities and for the work done so far by the HOC with regard to organisation, communication and procedures for accrediting the teams. Work will continue to improve communication to the English-speaking world and to getting team entries up to Championship level
Speaking after the meeting, Canoe Polo Technical Chair told the ICF, “The number of team entries and the number of nations that are coming to participate look likely to break all previous records. This shows how Canoe Polo is growing around the world.”
The cordial meeting began with a rich buffet of typical Italian products of bruschetta, prosciutto, provolone, the freshest local vegetables grilled to perfection, sumptuous focaccia bread followed by an Italian dessert, milles feuilles served with coffee that only the Italians can do so well. Tasting this sample spread, it was clear that the catering services during the Championships would be Italian to the hilt, that is to say, perfecto.
